Selvedge denim

Denim woven on narrow shuttle looms, which gives it a firm, clean woven edge (selvedge, from self-edge). It becomes visible on the inside of the outer seam, for example at the cuff, often with a colored thread. The selvedge alone says nothing about quality; but it shows a more elaborate production. Unwashed denim develops individual wear marks over time.
