Pleated trousers
Trousers with one or two pleats at the waistband that give more room at the hip and thigh. They usually have a higher rise and are worn at the waist; the leg then falls straight down. They belong with knitwear, shirt and sport coat and need a calm top that is worn tucked in or short.

From the Guide
- Brown suede loafers, black smooth leather loafers and lace-ups are safe with gray trousers.
- With flannel trousers in winter, suede penny and tassel loafers go well; Belgian loafers and driving moccasins are too summery for that.
- White sneakers and boots work, but make the wool trousers more casual: good on the weekend, less so at the office.
