Suede and smooth leather

Smooth leather is the grain side of the hide, smooth and polishable; it looks more formal and belongs with a suit and wool trousers. Suede has a roughened, velvety surface, looks more matte and casual and combines well with wool, corduroy and denim. Suede is cared for with a brush and should be waterproofed, smooth leather with cream and polish. Belt and shoes should match in material.
